Five layers include: A layer of soft, maleable plastic on the front. The soft plastic allows the ball to grab a bit similar to the friction of the skin on the forehead. The next layer is shock absorbing foam, then another plastic layer, another foam layer and finally a wicking moisture absorbing layer.
Soft all over so it will help protect the wearer and their opponent in times of collision.
